Last Friday at around 3 PM, the Calgary Public Library experienced a cyberattack. By 5 PM, they announced the closure of all branches for an indefinite period to assess the extent of the breach. This incident is a stark reminder that even seemingly minor cyber incidents can cause significant downtime.
It takes considerable effort to determine if the threat actor is still in the system, remove them, contain the incident, remediate and recover systems, and get everything back online.
It’s crucial for businesses to have an incident response plan and a process to quickly address and recover from these types of issues.
As we mark Cyber Awareness Month this October, let’s ensure our businesses are prepared and resilient against cyber threats.
