Insights from the Expera IT Team
This Cybersecurity Awareness Month, our team, including our CEO and Founder Vince Fung. is sharing some key tips for keeping your passwords and identity secure. Watch the video or read the blog below to get these essential tips, and if you’ve got any questions about how you can evaluate or enhance your organization’s cybersecurity posture, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team through the form below.
Tip 1: Use Long and Complex Passwords
A lot of people are still using passwords that are very easy to guess, and that are often only 6 or 8 characters long. The best practice is to use really long passwords, typically 15 characters or longer. You can use a strategy like a passphrase, which involves using a sentence with a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols to create a very strong password.
Tip 2: Use Different Passwords Everywhere
Using the same password across multiple sites is risky, because if a hacker steals one of those passwords, they can gain unauthorized access to other accounts that use the same password. Always use unique passwords for different sites.
Tip 3: Stop Sharing Passwords Insecurely
Avoid sharing passwords in manners that aren’t secure. In other words, you need to stop writing them down, texting them, or emailing them. If a hacker gains access to any of those resources, they can potentially steal your password.
Tip 4: Stop Saving Passwords Insecurely
Do not save passwords in your browser, because there are many ways hackers can gain unauthorized access through malicious plugins or unencrypted means. Browsers often do not encrypt saved passwords, making them vulnerable.
Tip 5: Turn on Multifactor Authentication
Enable multifactor authentication (MFA) everywhere. Most sites support MFA, and turning it on will make your accounts significantly more secure.
